It has become too frequent to hear or read a story about an electronic cigarette battery has exploded and either harmed somebody, or worse, resulted in a death.  What this has been linked to often is shoddy manufacturing and electronic cigarettes that have not been maintained properly.

The good news is, some of this can be remedied and we’re going to share some tips with you on how you can protect yourself and keep exploding batteries from your electronic cigarette.

The Battery

Pretty clear that it is the batter causing the problem. Most of all electronic cigarettes on the market today use lithium-ion batteries to power them. This is the same type of battery in most cameras and cell phones.

The battery heats up the liquid inside the electronic cigarette, which is a chemical solution, and then when you press the button, that liquid creates a vapor as you take a puff. Common sense tells us that a chemical solution that is left in a pressurize are like a luggage compartment, or pant pocket will create a fire hazard when combined with lithium-ion batteries. In other words, you are mixing chemicals with something that sparks and putting it in a confined space.

How This Happens

In a normal setting, the chance of your electronic cigarette batteries failing is low, it is the cylindrical design of device that makes it vulnerable.  When in this cylindrical design, the electronic cigarette and the batteries are crammed together and when the battery’s end seal ruptures, pressure builds up and ruptures the battery’s case, which can propel it across a room.

The most common reasons that batteries malfunction is overcharging, overheating, or short circuits. The safety features in electronic cigarettes are designed to keep these types of malfunctions from happening. But this is where user error occurs. They frequently assume that there is compatibility between any USB port with any cable or charger. There is high percentage of malfunction among third party electronic cigarettes with overcharged batteries that easily overheat.

The Right Battery Is Number One In Prevention

There are regulations set forth by the FDA with specifics regarding certain batteries in effort to establish safety guidelines. Among the requirements of these regulation are labels that advise users to use only certain chargers to recharge their batteries.

Until those regulations have become active law, users can take steps now toward safety. Such as not buying batteries that are overpowered for their electronic cigarette device and purchase only top-quality batteries.

What To Look For

There are several boxes to tick when you start to look for electronic cigarette paraphernalia. Such as buying high capacity units that won’t need to be recharged as often or for as long. The higher the voltage, the higher your vapor volume will be. And stay with the charger brand that the electronic cigarette manufacturer included in your kit.

Buy the e-juice that comes in an air-tight squeeze bottle to minimize risk of spillage. And finally, only operate your electronic cigarette at the right temperature. This will maintain the battery’s life as well as being a safety step.
