Parking
Blue Badge Scheme

The Blue Badge (formerly the Orange Badge) entitles disabled people to use on-street disabled parking spaces, usually located as close as possible to the goods and services that they may need to access. For many disabled people, who cannot travel far from their vehicle, the Blue Badge is a lifeline. However, the system is sadly open to much abuse as it stands and we receive frequent reports from members who are directly affected by this.
Disabled Motoring UKÂ would like to see several improvements to the scheme. Eligibility and assessment needs to be standardised and carried out more rigorously. The technology of the badges themselves should be improved, in order to make forgery and fraudulent use more difficult. Abuse of the scheme should be penalised in a way which will act as a genuine deterrent.
