We had reported to us recently an incident when a member, with her assistance dog, was refused carriage in a London private hire vehicle by the Muslim driver. Islamic tradition warns Muslims against
contact with dogs because they are seen as impure, and in recent years a number of Muslim drivers have been prosecuted and convicted under the Disability Discrimination Act for failing to comply with the regulations set out under the DDA.
Mobility scooters and SORN
Owners of mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs (Class 3 vehicles) must register them with the DVLA. A Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) is also required if the vehicle is not in use and being kept off the road.
Scooter Registration
We continue to receive enquiries about the registration of mobility scooters and have therefore reproduced again the current procedure for registration. Invalid carriages are separated into three categories. Only Class 3 vehicles are required to be registered with the DVLA.
Blue Badge Changes Announced
Transport Minister Rosie Winterton today announced a series of changes to update the Blue Badge disabled persons` parking scheme and make it tougher on fraud.
Wheel Clamping and Blue Badges
